Working in a Wildlife Refuge
Tree Service in Mountain Park is different from work in the bigger cities around it. Mountain Park covers about half a square mile, almost entirely residential, and had 583 residents in the 2020 census, making it the least populous city in Fulton County. The city is designated a wildlife refuge, its zoning allows no commercial uses, and Roswell surrounds it on three sides with Cherokee County to the west. Wooded slopes and lakes are the defining features, and most residents moved here for exactly that.
Two lakes, and the silt problem
Lake Garrett lies inside the city, and Lake Cherful, downstream to the northwest, straddles the county line. Both lakes have been filling in with silt, which the city has blamed on development upstream in Roswell; it sued in 2005 and won a jury verdict in 2010. That history matters for tree work here. Removing trees on a steep slope above the lakes can expose soil to erosion, so we leave stumps and roots in place on slopes where grinding would loosen soil, chip brush for cover, and avoid running equipment across bare ground in wet weather.
Light-touch work
In a refuge, the goal is usually to keep as many healthy trees as possible and remove only those that threaten the house, driveway or a neighbor. Typical work includes:
- Removing dead or leaning trees over houses and decks
- Deadwood removal and modest crown reduction instead of large removals
- Leaving some dead trunks standing as wildlife snags where they cannot hit anything, when the owner wants that
- Clearing fallen trees off narrow roads and drives after storms
Seasonal timing
Birds nest in spring and early summer. When a job is not urgent, scheduling non-emergency removals in late summer, fall or winter disturbs fewer nests and also makes it easier to see the tree's structure once the leaves drop. Hazardous trees are different; they come down when they need to.
Access
Mountain Park's roads are narrow and winding, and many lots are steep. Access for trucks and chippers is a real factor, and some jobs mean carrying brush up to the road. We look at that during the estimate and write it into the quote.
Services from Roswell
Mountain Park contracts police, emergency medical, fire and 911 services from neighboring Roswell. For a tree across a road or on a line, call 911 or the utility as you would anywhere. For trees on your lot afterward, we can come out once the area is safe. Many residents also deal with Roswell's rules when their property or a neighbor's tree sits across the line, so it helps to know which jurisdiction a tree is in.
Call (770) 758-8959 or send the form with photos. We will walk the lot with you and give you a written estimate.

Mountain Park Questions
Can I leave a dead tree standing for wildlife?
If it cannot reach the house, a road, a neighbor or a path, leaving a snag is an option. We can cut it down to a safe height.
Will removing trees cause erosion into the lake?
It can on steep slopes. We leave roots in place where grinding would loosen soil, and chip brush to cover bare ground.
Do you work on Mountain Park's narrow roads?
Yes. We plan the truck and chipper position during the estimate and tell you if brush needs to be carried up the slope.
Who do I call if a tree blocks my road?
For an emergency, call 911. Once the road and any lines are safe, we can clear trees on your property.
Do you check whether a tree is in Mountain Park or Roswell?
Yes. Roswell surrounds the city on three sides, and some lots border Cherokee County. We look at the property lines with you so the right rules are followed.
Can you prune for a lake view without removing trees?
Usually. Raising lower limbs and opening small windows in the crown can give a view while keeping the canopy and roots that hold the slope.
